Lecture 7: The Black Box Reflection

[Image Source: Russell Lowe's Lecture 7: The Black Box]

Prior to this lecture, I did not really think about the different shadows that will be casted from my axonometric. I have learnt now that interesting and unique shadows can be created from constructing various rectangular prisms with each other in a creative manner. The slide that caught my attention the most from the lecture is the one shown above from the subtitle “Shadows as Solids”. “Shadows as Solids” are shadows which appear as if they are solid structures. This image shows that the shadows being casted appear solid and as if they are part of the structure. This illusion fascinates me as from a distance, it is difficult to analyse the truth behind the structure. This image has inspired me to create more interesting shapes with my axonometric so that I can create a similar type of illusion from my own designs.

Electroliquid Aggregation

Stephen Hawking: "The problem of the origin of the universe is a bit like the old question: Which came first, the chicken or the egg?"

Nicole Kuepper: "I believe it is important that we look into appropriate technologies by taking high-tech processes like the manufacturing of solar cells and making them applicable to low-tech environments."

Electroliquid Aggregate: "The problem of the origin of the universe is a bit like the question: Which came first: low tech environments that need assistance, or high tech processes such as solar cells which gives assistance?"

Second Attempt: Intersected Axonometric in Crysis

Draft Of Intersected Axonometrics

These axonometric drawings contain more than 9 rectangular prisms and therefore are just draft drawings.

18 SKETCH AXONOMETRICS

Draft Axonometrics

These axonometric drawings were for draft purposes and they contain more than 5 rectangular prisms and are not for submission.

3 ANIMATIONS FROM SKETCHUP

Animation 1: Sectional
This animation captures all three levels of the model in a sectional view.

Animation 2: Goodwin's Point of View
This animation shows Richard's Goodwin point of view as he brings his artwork from his studio below ground to the gallery on the ground floor. The stairs give a distinctive and significant path for Goodwin.

I imagine that Goodwin's large artwork will be broken up and assembled in the gallery space.

Animation 3: Piccinini's Point of View
This animation shows Patricia's Piccinini's point of view as she brings her artwork from her studio space above ground to the gallery on the ground floor. The stairs give a distinctive and significant path for Piccinini.

Since her artwork is very small and easy to carry, I envision that having a spiral staircase with no balustrade would be suitable for her.

7 IMAGES SHOWING 2 DRAFT SKETCHUP MODELS AND 1 DEVELOPED SKETCHUP MODEL

Draft Model 1
Above Ground - Futuristic
Below Ground - Skeleton
Materials: Wood, Metal, Glass

Draft Model 2

Above Ground - Skeleton
Below Ground - Futuristic
Materials: Glass, Metal, Concrete

Developed Model
Above Ground - Skeleton
Below Ground - Futuristic
Materials: Glass, Wood, Concrete, Metal

This is an overall view of my Developed model. It shows the three levels of the model from the exterior.

This image shows Richard Goodwin's studio space. The circular windows on the walls shows how he was inspired to create his artwork that is being displayed. The reason for the helicopters in his studio is because Goodwin is absolutely fascinated by helicopters.

This view of the model shows Piccinini's studio and the stairs that lead from her studio space to the gallery. The box in between the stairs and the studio is a symbol of privacy that tells the public that upstairs is a private place. There is a skeleton model inside the studio to show how Piccinini was inspired to create her artwork that is displayed.

Sections: Connection of Stairs and Building Fabrics

These sections show the connection between the stair material and the building fabric it touches.

Developed Model

Developed Model:
Above Ground - Skeleton
Below Ground - Futuristic

Inspired by these 3 sectional views put together.
